Queensland Cake Decorators' Association Inc.

Queensland Cake Decorators' Association Inc. has 24 Branches throughout Queensland

The Queensland Cake Decorators’ Association Inc. (QCDA) was formed over 30 years ago when several cake decorators gathered together to share ideas and skills in this art. Since these humble beginnings the Association has grown tremendously and currently has a membership of approx. 600 throughout the State. There are now 24 Branches from the Gold Coast to Mareeba and west to Roma. Each of these Branches are working in their community and surrounds through displays and local shows to bring this fascinating art to the public.

Our Association is a non-profit organization where all members give of their time voluntarily.

The QCDA has a panel of Judges who have undertaken extensive training and examination before being accredited. These Judges are invited throughout the State to judge Local Shows, the Brisbane RNA, and our own ‘Queensland Cake Decorators' Competition and Display’ which is held in June each year. Our ‘Queensland Cake Decorators' Competition and Display’ has been going for approx. 30 years, and is held in the Community Hall at the Mt Gravatt Show Grounds. Our Judges are often called upon to judge for Interstate Competitions as well.

Once every two years our Association holds a weekend State Seminar for members, where new ideas and techniques are shown and new friendships formed. On the alternate years a National Seminar is held which involves all Australian States and often includes guests from overseas. This National Seminar lasts for a week and is hosted alternatively by each State. Also, throughout each year a number of our Branches hold Demonstration Days, these days are a time to learn new techniques etc. Sharing of ideas is once more the main aim.

Cake decorating can be a rewarding and fulfilling hobby and can be learnt by anyone. It is up to the individual how far they wish to pursue their skills in cake decorating. There are many facets to learn, such as flower making, novelty work and basic piping (just to name a few).

Lessons in this art are held at some TAFE Colleges, also sometimes conducted at local Cake Decorating Supply Shops and by Cake Decorators.
